11/20/2018 0 Comments Final Reflection The first day I walked into digital photography I honestly had no clue what I was doing. I didn't know how to compose my images and was taking snapshots of things. This class has helped entrench a strong foundation for photography and has taught me many tools that I will continue to use in my photography. I think I was pushed by this class and wanted to create the best images I could. The first pictures I ever took in this class were somewhat problematic. I didn't know how to expose appropriately or compose my image, making it difficult to be happy with my work. Once we started talking about the camera functions things started coming together. I finally knew the importance of each of the settings on my camera and could create images. My love of photography has also grown throughout this class. I started off thinking about this as another deadline that I had to fulfill, just another class in my high school career that I'd forget about while moving into the second trimester. I was completely wrong about this. This class has taught me so many things about my love for photography and how I can tell a story through my images. If I could, I would take this class again because it has opened my eyes to a whole other side of the art spectrum. The experiences in this class were limitless, and I think that is something that I enjoyed. I liked having the freedom to choose what I wanted my art to be like. I experienced so many different things in this class and have many stories within my pictures. My favorite shoot was my people photography due to the fact that there is a story behind each image and each picture was shared with dialogue with the subjects. This shoot opened up my eyes and developed my love for photography even more. I'd say these were my best (left) and worst (right) images. I learned early on in this class that unless I put myself out of my comfort zone to take pictures, I don't think outside of the box. I believe that creativity is the most critical element in photography. Without it, the image becomes boring and doesn't tell a story or show emotion. When I started thinking about the pictures before I clicked the button, I saw an exponential increase in good photos. "My Favorites" As you can see in some of my later shoots, I started thinking about every single thing I was doing with my camera. I was even thinking about the way the person was standing or looking into the camera. I think this shows my growth as a photographer and shows that I have developed the necessary skills to continue with my passion. I want to give a big thank you to Mr. Bush for providing the skills and giving the critiques that have improved my photography and my actual ability to take good pictures. This class has been a blast, and I can't wait to continue to take more and more photos as time progresses! Thank you for reading.

11/14/2018 0 Comments Motion Photography AssignmentAssignment Description: With this assignment, we were tasked with creating motion blur in the background of our images using pre-focusing and tracking our subject as they move across our viewfinder. We were supposed to have the subject completely clear and the background blurred due to movement. We got this effect by dropping our shutter speed down to around 1/30 sec. and tracking the subject. What I Learned From this Project:
I learned how to create a blur within my image and still get my subject clear. I also learned that the type of lens you use while trying to create these images matter. When using my 50mm 1.4 lens, I found it difficult to get the exact picture I wanted. The image above was my best even though it is a little blurry. This was lots of fun, and I enjoyed taking these pictures. 11/12/2018 0 Comments Fashion/Model Photography AssignmentWith this trimesters final photography assignment I decided I wanted to shoot fashion/model photography. This was my first time working with someone who reached out to me to get pictures done. I have been trying to remove myself from my comfort zone when it comes to photography so I can get more exposure to the reality of photography. I picked out the outfits for the model, Rachel, and even told her what to do, where to sit, how to pose, what emotions to convey, and I really like the outcome of the photos. This was one of my favorite shoots, and I can't wait to take more pictures like these. I hope you enjoy. "Friendly" f/2.0 - 1/200 sec. - ISO 100 The editing for this photo was very experimental. I've been trying to find my style of photography and what I want my final image to look like. I did some adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop, adjusting the curves and sliders to get the exact look I wanted. I did some minor editing to the eyes and skin, just cleaning some of the small things up. I was deciding whether or not I wanted to remove some of the red from the cheeks, but I liked the color and the feeling of the photo with the red. I again wanted to draw the viewer into the model's eyes, making them the most important thing in the image. Here are my other nine photos, I liked all of these, and it made it hard to choose between them. Enjoy!
11/9/2018 0 Comments Portrait Photoshop AssignmentAssignment Description: In this assignment, we were told we had to take portraits in different kinds of lighting and use our settings to adjust to the environment. We were given a stairwell shot where we had simple reflectors and no additional light except window light coming in from the right side. We were also given a shot where we had a studio setup and backdrop with professional lighting, and we were supposed to see the difference between the two images lighting wise and compositionally. We used tools from past projects such as selections, cropping, and other additional tools. What I Learned From this Project:
In this project, I learned the importance of light and how it matters how the light is hitting the subject. With the stairwell shot, it was hard to get the light exactly how I wanted it due to the fact that it was partially uncontrollable. I also learned the importance of spacing your subject from the backdrop and making sure that the background isn't also in focus right behind the subject. Additionally, I learned how to composite the two images together in different layers and how to create a border around my photos. 11/5/2018 0 Comments People Photography AssignmentWith this weeks photography assignment, I decided to shoot the topic of people. I wanted to go for a very emotional and raw subject. I ended up going into downtown Detroit and shot some pictures of the homeless. I named this collection of photos "The Forgotten People." This completely removed me from my comfort zone and made me feel lots of different emotions. As you'll see in some of the following photos, you can tell the emotion from the subject and how they look at the camera. One subject that touched me very closely is the man in the dumpster. He said something along the lines of "I was given opportunities, but I lost them because of my choices. Now I can't get out." This is the raw feeling I was going for, and I think I nailed it. I hope you enjoy. "Forgotten" f/5.0 - 1/200 sec. - ISO 200 The editing was very basic for this photo, again following that idea of a raw feeling. I have been learning how to make my own black and white pictures without doing the auto B&W option, and I did just that on this image. I did some very basic photoshop editing but nothing that changed the image drastically. I again wanted the eyes to be the main subject of the picture, making the viewer feel all the emotions in his eyes. I gave him specific directions to look through the middle of my barrel to get the effect of him staring into the viewers' eyes. Here are some of my other photos. I loved all of these images, so it was very difficult to pick my best one. Enjoy. "The Forgotten People"
11/2/2018 0 Comments Multiple Me Photoshop AssignmentAssignment Description: In this assignment, we were told we had to create and composite an image with multiple pictures of us in it. We used things such as layer masks and selection tools to create this image. We were also supposed to approach this assignment with a sense of creativity. I personally really liked this assignment and found posing myself to be lots of fun. What I Learned From this Project:
During this project, I learned many things about compositing images. At first, this assignment seemed like it would be easier but turned out to be very difficult, due to the fact that all your pictures had to have the exact same camera settings or else the end result would look very off. My final picture is actually my second time trying these images, my first one not working out due to some different settings in my photos and my camera somehow moving between pictures. I'd say the main thing I learned about is compositing images and discovering that your best photos don't always come your first time taking them. 10/30/2018 0 Comments School Context Photoshop AssignmentWith this photoshop assignment we were supposed to created an augmented reality in an image we took by using a plurality of tools, such as layers, masks, revealing, and concealing within our images. We also learned how to used gaussian blurs and copies of layers to create shadows with an object. I had a lot of fun making my edit and wanted to create something funny and lighthearted. I hope you like it.
10/29/2018 0 Comments Event Photography AssignmentIn this weeks assignment, I decided to shoot event photography. I went with my family to trunk-or-treat in downtown Saline and decided to shoot some fun shots of people in costumes. This shoot took me out of my comfort zone and made me interact with people I may not know in order to shoot my photos. The light kept getting dimmer and dimmer outside, so I had to be quick with my shooting. I enjoyed this shoot, and it was my first "public" photography outing. "Prince Charming" f/2.8 - 1/200 sec. - ISO 320 Similar to last weeks photography assignment, I solely edited this image in photoshop. I've been trying to find my calling to editing and have been experimenting with my style of editing. I used layers and used things such as curves and gradient filters to give my image the look I wanted. I also continued with my use of color selections to emphasize specific things in the image. I also used the burn and dodge tools to help highlight and darken things within the picture. The main thing I want the viewer to focus on is the eyes, so that's what I tried to draw out. Here are the other nine photos I thought were good but not my best. I hope you enjoy them!
10/22/2018 0 Comments Portrait Photography AssignmentWith this weeks photography assignment, I decided to divide the people/portrait photography into solely portrait photography. I brought back the use of the fairy lights for this weeks assignment because I liked how my last photos turned out with them. I will try something new next week, but I had this idea with this setting originally. The room again had to be dark, but I used some artificial lighting and held a lamp where I thought more light was needed, so I didn't need to bump up my ISO. I liked this shoot, and my sister and I had a lot of fun taking these photos! "Little Fairy" f/2.2 - 1/80 sec. - ISO 400 With this image, I solely edited it with photoshop. I have been practicing with some elements at home and decided to give it a shot. I used the color adjusting/balancing tool to take out some of the yellow in the image. Without any color balancing, the photo was very warm, and a harsh yellow tone was present on her face. I also used some color adjustments with the blues in her eyes and used tools such as the burn and dodge tools to draw the image into her eyes. Here are some of the other photos I took but didn't choose for my best. I hope you enjoy!
10/17/2018 0 Comments Panoramic Photoshop AssignmentThe point of this project was to teach us how to capture panoramic photos and how to edit and merge them in photoshop. This assignment taught me the importance of a tripod, even if you aren't taking a panoramic photo. It also taught me how to merge and stitch a photo together in photoshop. All in all, I enjoyed thinking about the composition of the photos and liked how they turned out.
